IOC prepares a guide for preventing plastic pollutionStep by step instructions for the paradigm of sports events

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] International Olympic Committee has collaborated with United Nations to create “Plastic Game Plan for Sport,” a guideline to reduce plastic pollution.

The guideline took several measures such as banning disposable plastic, reducing plastic usage overall, and encouraging recycling in which the officials exhibited several guidelines of how to effectively reduce plastic waste.

Marie Sallios from IOC, the director of Sustainable development, said, “Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges we face today, and the ‘Plastic Game Plan for Sport’ aims to remove plastic waste in the daily lives of competition officials, athletes, and fans in a step by step manner.

Meanwhile, the IOC became a member of United Nations Environment Program’s “Clean Seas Campaign,” in June 2018, and International Federations, National Olympic Committees, and other Olympic organizations will be urged to join.
