[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on October 21.

The MOU specifically covers the scope of cooperation, including the current situation and areas of interest in the prevention and management of diseases such as public health crisis preparedness and response, monitoring and control of new infections (particularly viral hemorrhagic fever), bio-terrorism response, laboratory (inspection and analysis) capabilities, antibiotic resistance, vaccination policies, health promotion and chronic diseases, and education of health care personnel.

The signing of the MOU between Korea and the U.S. will provide an opportunity to systemize existing cooperative paths, such as cooperation in laboratory networks, manpower dispatch and information exchanges, and set up the first framework for cooperation to prevent and manage diseases.

“It is very meaningful that we will establish a close cooperative system between the two countries in an international situation that highlights the importance of international health and security, and we hope that we will work together for the common international goal of disease prevention and management,” said Jeong Eun-kyung, Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
