[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Kim Hyun-kwon, a lawmaker of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans & Fisheries Committee, and the Korea Forest Service held a symposium at the National Assembly on September 5 to promote research and development of urban forests in response to fine dust.

Discussions were held to find ways to effectively create and manage forests and a comprehensive plan for mutual cooperation in urban planning, atmospheric science, and urban forest areas.

The presentation was held under the theme of ‘Mutual Cooperation in Urban Forests, Urban Planning and Atmospheric Science for Reducing Fine Dust’.

“We need to actively utilize any type of forest to solve various environmental problems such as fine dust and improve the quality of people's lives,” Rep. Kim Hyun-kwon said. "We will make efforts to support policy alternatives for urban forests.”

“In order to cope with the fine dust, systematic and convergence cooperation research among urban planning, atmospheric chemistry and landscape needs to be conducted,” said Kim Jae-hyun, Minister of the Korea Forest Service. “We will do our best to create an urban forest that increases people's happiness.”
