[The Hwankyung Ilbo] According to data on the status of public officials in charge of air quality at local governments submitted to Rep. Shin Chang-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea from the Ministry of Environment, there were only 387 people in the nation that manage 56,584 air pollutant emission facilities as of 2018.
Gyeonggi Province had the largest number of air pollution emitting facilities with 19,043 units, while it had 98 people in charge of air pollution.
The number of pollutant emission facilities per air quality inspectors was the highest in Sejong City, with one person in charge of 334 companies.
It is pointed out that it is physically impossible to supervise all the facilities because there is a shortage of staff in charge of the discharge facilities.
