[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will select the five most frequently used plastic items in daily life and launch a continuous civic real-life campaign with civic groups, in order to reduce the annual increase in plastic use.

The five items are plastic cups, straws, plastic bags, delivery goods, and laundry vinyl.

In particular, the amount of plastic used in Korea is 132.7kg per capita in 2016, which is much higher than the 93.8kg in the US and 65.8kg in Japan.

On August 26 last year, Seoul held a volunteer action campaign with the Saemaul Women's Association, the Korean Woman's Federation for Consumer, the Ecofeminist, and the Green. Each organization has carried out a variety of activities to reduce the use of plastic, especially the five items.

In addition, Seoul plans to continue carrying out the campaigns to reduce the use of plastic items with civic groups, and it will hold discussions on the performance of each civic group to find ways to improve the situation.
