[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The government declared a national disaster on April 5 across Goseong, Sokcho, Gangneung, Donghae and Inje, all in Gangwon to cope with the damage caused by wildfires on the East Coast of Gangwon Province on April 4.

Accordingly, more effective disaster response can be possible through measures such as issuing disaster alerts in declared areas, mobilizing manpower and equipment, setting dangerous zones, ordering evacuation, emergency assistance, and emergency call-ups of government officials.

In addition, restrictions on access to and control of dangerous areas will be strengthened to prevent further damage. Failure to comply with evacuation orders or entry into dangerous areas will result in fines.

For local residents affected by the forest fire, the government plans to draw up measures to support emergency life stability including the provision of temporary housing facilities for victims, and to provide funeral support, medical treatment, and disaster relief support services for casualties.
