[The Hwankyung Ilbo] According to the first Korea-US joint research (KORUS-AQ) promoted in 2016, the National Institute of Environmental Research of the Ministry of Environment has derived scientific conclusions on the secondary generation of fine dust and the impact of coal-fired power plants on the West coast on air quality, and thus confirmed the need for the introduction of mid-sized aircraft and for the observation in winter and spring.
Accordingly, the mid-sized aircraft modified by the National Strategy Project-Mise dust business group (2019.3.1.), and the National Institute of Environmental Research is currently conducting an aerial observation study to monitor incoming fine dust from long-distance travel to Korea in spring until the end of March 2019.
The air observation is expected to establish an independent aviation observation platform using mid-sized aircraft for the first time in East Asia to set up a system to measure the main components of fine dust in real time.
This will enable the government to obtain scientific data that can prove the inflow of fine dust from China, and to improve the forecast accuracy by using the inflow fine dust amount calculation and aerial observation data.
