[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Liberty Korea Party Rep. Hong Chul-ho said on the 5th that the number of deaths in Korea caused by ultra-fine dust (PM2.5) exceeded 10,000 a year.
According to a study by the Korean Ministry of Environment in 2017, obtained and disclosed recently by Rep. Hong Chul-ho, said that 11,924 people died of conditions caused by ultra-fine dust in 2015.
The most common disease caused by fine dust was ‘heart disease and stroke(58%), followed by acute respiratory infection and chronic lung disease(18% respectively) and lung cancer(6%).
“Fine dust is a disaster that is now more serious than any other disaster, and it is a matter that directly links to life threats,” said Rep. Hong Chul-ho. “The government should convene an emergency meeting as soon as possible to come up with measures.”
