Government to implement the 3rd pilot project of carbon point system for automobiles'자동차 탄소포인트제 3차 시범사업 추진'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment announced that it would implement the 3rd pilot project of carbon point system for automobiles with local governments and the Korea Environment Corporation starting this month.

The carbon-point system allows drivers up to 100,000 won (carbon point) in benefits depending on their performance if they shorten the mileage or they drive eco-friendly without rapid acceleration and rapid braking.

The pilot project was launched in 2017 (the 1st pilot project) to achieve the effects of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the generation of fine dust.

This year's third pilot project will recruit 6500 people on a first-come, first-served basis from February, and will be carried out until December.

2,522 people participated in the 1st and 2nd pilot projects, reducing total mileage of 2.68 million kilometers and 404 tons of greenhouse gases, and reducing the generation of fine dust by 112 kilograms.

The Ministry of Environment plans to set up operational regulations within this year by analyzing the results of the 1st to 3rd pilot project and introduce the carbon point system for automobiles from 2020.
