[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation announced on January 22 that they will expand the scope of support for projects for reducing greenhouse gas emission of participating companies in the Emission Trading System from small and medium-sized companies to local governments.

The project, which started in 2015 has supported only for small and medium-sized enterprises, and last year, a total of 500 million won was provided to four companies.

The budget for this year's project is worth 4.1 billion won, and if selected as a support company, subsidies are provided up to 300 million won per company within 50 percent of investment for facilities that have been proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The government will select projects that have substantial reduction effects by comprehensively evaluating the feasibility and the effectiveness of the project.

The announcement for local government support projects is scheduled for the end of January.
