[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment announced that it will start recruiting applicants for the ‘Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) one-ton truck conversion project’ from December 26 to January 18 next year.

The project is to pay an additional 4 million won in addition to an early disposal subsidy (up to 1,650,000 won) to those who purchase LPG one-ton trucks by scrapping old diesel cars.

The budget is 3.8 billion won for 950 cars in 2019 and those who own diesel cars with emission grade 5 can apply for the subsidy.

The Ministry of Environment is discussing with Seoul Metropolitan Government and other three local governments to delay the penalty for the operation of vehicles with emission grade 5 for the applicants who officially completed the application when emergency reduction is announced.

However, fines can be imposed if the owner of the vehicle falsely requests a subsidy for the purpose of avoiding the penalty and continues to operate the car.

“We will make efforts to minimize the economic burden of the vulnerable due to restrictions on the operation of old cars by strengthening support for owners of one-ton trucks,” said an official from the Ministry of Environment.
