National Institute of Biological Resources to launch the Biogeographic Information Service'생물다양성 정보를 한눈에'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment announced that it would launch the Biogeographic Information Service(species.nibr.go.kr/geo)' which provides a comprehensive distribution information of the native species in Korea.

The Biogeographic Information Service is a visualization of 80,000 pieces of collected location data of biological specimens investigated by the National Institute of Biological Resources since 2007.

Using Biogeographic Information Service, the distribution status of organisms collected based on the user's current access location can be viewed on a map, providing an easy way to identify biodiversity distribution information around the user.

In addition, the user can calculate the distribution area and distance of a living organism through the distance and area calculation function associated with the satellite and the general map.

“We will continue to construct and provide the location-based information on the native wildlife and strengthen systematic protection and management of habitats of the native species,” said an official of the National Institute of Biological Resources.
