A tree survey using drones can observe a large area at a time compared with a survey that a person visually checks on the spot.

The Korea National Park Service designated the Birobong area of ​​Sobaeksan national park, which is known as the largest park in Korea, as a test target and took its first shooting with a drone at the end of June.

After combining images and coordinates collected on the site and in the video, it will use open-source software to identify the health status of trees and build them as space data using drones.

“The tree survey using UAV has the advantage of observing a large area at one time,” said a official from the Korea National Park Service. “We will realize scientific national park management in the era of the 4th industrial revolution by researching ecosystem and building data using drones and spatial information.”
