The government to publish a guide to the prevention of collision between birds and windows

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Institute of Ecology announced that it would publish a guidebook that introduces the latest domestic and international measures to prevent the clash of wild birds and windshields including using ultraviolet reflective tape on February 27.

The guidebook, which is based on the Bird-Friendly Building Design published by the American Bird Conservancy in 2015, outlines effective measures to prevent wild bird damages caused by collision with windows.

Most birds have a body structure in which the eyes are on both sides of the head, making it difficult to feel distance from the obstacles on the front.

The National Institute of Ecology has introduced UV reflective tape, which has excellent anti-collision effect without harming the beauty of the buildings developed by the American Bird Conservancy in 2012, to some of its buildings.

As a result of applying this ultraviolet reflective tape to 7 buildings of the Institute in 2015 and 2016, wild bird’s death, which had reached 2.6 per month before construction, has not yet occurred since construction.

This guidebook can be found on the National Institute of Ecology’s website (www.nie.re.kr) from early March.
