[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Science and ICT signed a memorandum of understanding on the supply of eco-friendly ultra-compact electric cars on February 19.

The two Ministries agreed to replace 10,000 old motorcycles with electric motorcycles by 2020 as part of the country’s efforts to reduce fine dust.

The motorcycles release road mobile pollution sources such as carbon monoxide and volatile organic compound. However, institutional management is insufficient, even though risks to human health are high.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment prioritized the expansion of the use of electric two-wheeled vehicles and announced plans to distribute 50,000 electric motorcycles by 2022.

“As interest in the fine dust problems has recently increased, interest in electric bicycles is growing. We will actively support eco-friendly delivery equipment not only in public institutions such as the post office but also in the private sector,” an officer of the Ministry of Environment said.
