Some of the Trails in National Parks to be closed'산불 위험…국립공원 일부 탐방로 폐쇄'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea National Park Service (KNPS) said it would close down some of the trails in national parks from February 15 to May 15 to prevent forest fires.

Of the total 605 (1,996 km) trails in national parks, 146 (649 km long) trails, including Baekdamsa ~ Daecheongbong in Seorak Mountain, which are vulnerable to forest fires, are fully restricted. The other 459 trails (1,347 km), including Jiri Mountain’s Jangteomok ~ Cheonwangbong, can be used as usual.

Detailed information on the state of trails under control can be found on the website (www.knps.or.kr).

In addition, the government will intensively crack down on illegal incineration of agricultural wastes such as vinyl in the rice paddies and fields along the national park boundaries. In particular, the crackdown will also be launched on illegal activities such as smoking and bringing in the inflammables in national parks.

If a violation such as smoking in a national park or unauthorized access to a restricted area is detected, a penalty of up to 500,000 won will be imposed.
