2 new and 36 unrecorded species of microorganisms found in internal organs of freshwater fish'담수생물 내장에서 미기록종 38종 발견'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources said it has recently discovered a total of 38 microorganisms, including 2 new species and 36 unrecorded species, in internal organs of freshwater fish, including icefish.

From January 2019, researchers at the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources collected freshwater creatures from 12 places. The researchers succeeded in separating 38 microorganisms from the gut of these organisms.

The two new species are Deefgea Intestinalis and Poseidonibacter Ostreae.

In particular, researchers analyzed the entire gene of Deefgea Intestinalis and found genes that produce polyhydroxy-butylate, which can be used as a raw material for biodegradable plastics.

“We plan to conduct research on microorganisms that interact with various freshwater creatures in the future,” said a researcher of the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources.
