[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Since the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan in 2011, it has been confirmed that 6,529 cases of food have been detected in excess of the radioactive cesium level.

According to the Foreign Ministry's ‘radio cesium monitoring test results’ submitted to Rep. Song Young-gil, a total of 2,462,162 cases of food related to the nuclear accident in Fukushima have been examined since the 2011 accident, and 6,529 of them have been detected cesium above the standard level.

After the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, the number of excess cesium exceeded 1,000 cases per year from 2011 to 2013, decreased from 565 in 2014 and 291 in 2015, but increased again to 461 in 2016.

“Advanced prevention is important for all risks. The ban on imports of fisheries products should be extended to areas near Fukushima as risks have increased due to the loss of radioactive waste,” Rep. Song claimed.
