[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The aging rate of water supply dams managed by the Korea Water Resources Corporation was found to reach 64%.

According to the data submitted to Rep. Lim Yi-ja of the Liberty Korea Party from the Korea Water Resources Corporation, there are 37 dams managed by the Korea Water Resources Corporation, 20 dams for multiple purposes, 14 dams for water use and 3 dams for flood control.

Out of the total 37 dams, 16 dams, or 43%, were found to be more than 30 years old, while nine of the 14 dams for water use, or 64%, were found to be aged more than 30 years

“The number of earthquakes is gradually increasing and the size is getting bigger,” said Rep. Lim Yi-ja. “If disaster such as earthquakes causes problems in the safety of dams, the national disaster situation could occur.”
