Addition of fragrance substances to electronic cigarettes to be prohibited'전자담배 가향물질 첨가 금지 추진'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] A measure will be implemented to ban the addition of fragrance substances to electronic cigarettes.

Rep. Park Byung-sun of the Democratic Party of Korea on September 27 proposed a revision to the ‘National Health Promotion Act.’

The recent rise of suspected electronic cigarette-related lung diseases and severe cases has raised the risk of electronic cigarette worldwide. In particular, it has been pointed out that e-cigarettes with flavors encourage youth smoking.

The U.S. was the first to announce a ban on sales of liquid electronic cigarettes, and regulations are expanding to other countries such as China, India and India. The Ministry of Health and Welfare also recommended that the use of electronic cigarettes be restrained and said an analysis of the harmful effects is needed.

The National Health Promotion Act does not have a regulation that prohibits the addition of fragrance substances to cigarettes.

"With the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes being disputed around the world, we must protect our people's health from the threat of flavored electronic cigarettes,” said Rep. Park Byung-sun.
