[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Seoul Metropolitan Government said that 160 water-cleaning vehicles will be operated from 12 p.m. to 16 p.m. during the heat wave between August and September.

Accordingly, Seoul has distributed road cleaning manuals to 25 districts and is preparing for the heat wave by spraying water on the roads.

Spraying water on the roads is effective in alleviating heat island phenomenon in urban areas by lowering the surrounding temperature as well as roads.

According to research by Seoul, when water is sprayed on the road at the highest temperature during the day, the temperature of the platform of the bus center lane is lowered by 0.8 ℃, the road surface temperature by 6.4 ℃, and the surrounding temperature by 1.5 ℃..

It is also expected to help improve air quality as it has the effect of washing away fine dust on the roads.
