[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that it started implementing an upgraded ‘Earthquake Information Service’ from July 22, which includes expanding the scope of earthquake disaster text transmission and applying the Korean-style earthquake scale system.

The Government plans to provide breaking news about earthquakes in some parts of North Korea that could affect the South Korea. In particular, the government will issue a news report on earthquakes in North Korea even if it is magnitude of less than 5.0, and send out a message of disaster.

It will release information on microearthquake that can be felt depending on the environment through the website of the Korea Meteorological Administration.

In addition, the new Korean earthquake scale formula developed in response to the seismic and geological characteristics of the Korean Peninsula will be applied to seismic analysis.

In case of major earthquakes in South Korea with a magnitude of 3.5 or higher, the Korea Meteorological Administration will provide information on the fault movement on its website.
